SAVERI TASTES SUCCESS AT ROUND THREE OF THE ESPORTS SERIES

Team Suzuki Press Office – August 26th

Team Suzuki Ecstar’s Andrea Saveri came into Round 3 of the MotoGP eSport Global Series holding third position in the championship, just 10 points from the top, so the pressure was on for the young Italian as he prepared to take on the tight and twisty Jerez and the newly laid-out Red Bull Ring.

Andrea managed to do his usual great job in qualifying, standing himself in good stead for the races with 3rd on the grid in Jerez and 4th in Austria. All that remained was to do battle under cloudy virtual skies…

RACE 1 – JEREZ

The classic Spanish track brought exciting racing right from the get-go as Andrea charged through to second place on the first corner ahead of a chasing pack. The GSX-RR man was soon embroiled in a battle with countryman Piero Ricciuti behind him, coming out on top. Keeping race leader, Cristian Montenegro, in his sights for the duration of the race Andrea piled on the pressure right until the end of the ten-lap race. He finished the race in a great 2nd place, just 0.635 from the win.

RACE 2 – RED BULL RING

All the riders were prepared to tackle the new chicane installed at the Spielberg circuit, but it certainly gave a feeling of the unknown for the second race of the afternoon. Andrea got good initial drive off the line, but fell back into the clutches of the pack on the opening corners. However, the determined Suzuki man was aware of the need to score as many points as possible. At the half-way point of the race, while Saveri was holding 4th, the group closed up and the Suzuki rider was truly in the mix. Ricciuti crashed out, temporarily moving Andrea up into a podium spot until he lost a place to KTM’s top gun ‘JackHammer’. However, the Brit also crashed out in the closing stages of the race, allowing Andrea back into 3rd.

At the end of the third round, after two more podiums, Andrea moves into 2nd place in the championship, now just 4 points from the top.

Andrea Saveri – Team Suzuki Ecstar eSport Rider
“I’m really happy about this third round, because I felt competitive and my target was a double podium – which I achieved. I think this was one of the hardest rounds I’ve done, because everyone is very familiar with these difficult tracks and the level was high. I had strong race pace and I managed to make some good overtakes to achieve my goals. I’m very motivated for the next races! Thanks so much to everyone who supports me.”

Matteo Miyakawa - Suzuki Ecstar eSports Team Director
“As all the riders are practicing and getting more and more confident with this game, the level of the competition is increasing. Andrea was ready for this, and he made no mistakes during the races, managing to get two podiums and secure important points for the championship, which brings us just 4 points from the lead. We’re very impressed with his hard work.”
