Sylvain Guintoli (France, 1982) arrived in Team SUZUKI ECSTAR at the beginning of 2017 as a replacement rider for Alex Rins, who was injured at COTA during the American GP held there. The Frenchman, a very experienced rider throughout different motorcycling categories, replaced the Spaniard, who was a rookie at that time, for three races. From that moment on he also began a new role in the team as Test Rider.
In 2019, apart from continuing his collaboration with the team to help the development of the GSX-RR, he will take part in three races as a Team SUZUKI ECSTAR wildcard.
The Frenchman began his career on the world scene in the 90s, where he took part in the small categories, before becoming French Superbike Champion in 2000. He then competed for several seasons in the 250cc World Championship. Later in his career, Guintoli became a test rider in MotoGP for several teams, and in 2007 he was able to achieve his dream of a full-time MotoGP World Championship ride.
After a brief stint in the British Superbike Championship (BSB), in which he suffered a serious accident that took him away from the races for a while, Sylvain began his career in the World Superbike Championship, where he won the crown in 2014.
The other Team SUZUKI ECSTAR test rider is Takuya Tsuda (Japan, 1984), a very popular rider in the All-Japan Championship. Tsuda, who has participated several times in the Suzuka 8 Hours, also tests the GSX-RR during some parts of the season. Tsuda made his debut in MotoGP in 2017, replacing the injured Alex Rins in Jerez. That appearance is his only race in the reigning class category thus far.
